Partial solar eclipse observing with the Oil Region Astronomical Society
October 14, 2023 @ 9:30 am - 3:00 pm
Please join us on Saturday, October 14 at 10:00 am, at the Oil Region Astronomy Learning Center when ORAS member Larry McHenry discusses sun spots and other features visible on the sun followed by tips on safe solar eclipse observing techniques.
The presentation will set the stage for the partial solar eclipse visible that same day across parts of the U.S. including Western Pennsylvania. The partial eclipse will begin around 11:54 AM on Saturday, October 14, reach its peak around 1:12 PM and end at 2:31 PM.
In addition, Larry will discuss where to go and how to observe the total solar eclipse that will be visible in the U.S. on April 8, 2024. After Larry’s presentation, weather permitting, there will be opportunities to safely view the partial eclipse and features on the sun through small solar telescopes. Solar eclipse glasses will also be available.
