Lost Amusement Parks of Northwestern PA
April 23, 2022 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm
FreeFranklin Preservation will be hosting a program entitled Lost Amusement Parks of Northwestern Pennsylvania on Saturday, April 23, 2022 from noon – 2 pm at the DeBence Music Museum on the 3rd Floor. The Museum has an elevator. The program will be presented by Jennifer Sopko, a Pittsburgh-based writer and historian. Jennifer will shed light on the fascinating stories of these long-gone recreation spots, from early picnic groves to traditional amusement parks, including: trolley and railroad parks with origins tied to transportation; the first African-American-owned amusement park; and all of the parks’ classic amusement rides that thrilled countless people of all ages. The DeBence Music Museum contains a number of music machines used in these amusement parks.
Pre-packaged refreshments will be served. We will offer membership information and Franklin Preservation’s Schedule of events for 2022. Walk-ins are welcome. The program is free to the public and donations are accepted. Proceeds will go toward the restoration of the former Old Lutheran Church and the upkeep of the Venango County Civil War Monument.
