Sandycreek Elementary – Career Day Programs
May 25, 2023 @ 8:30 am - 11:30 am
Sandycreek Elementary will hold it’s section annual Career Day event from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday, May 25.
The goal of the program is to expose students to many of the careers available in this area and the importance of furthering their education. In order to achieve that vision, staff at the school need assistance of parents, community members, and public figures. The school’s older students (grades 3 to 6) will spend the time listening to a series of presenters set up around the school. Those presenters will speak for 20 to 25 minutes followed by a five-minute Q&A period for the students.
Each presenter will speak to for groups of students and it is recommended the presentation include information on related school subjects, education/ training, personal skills necessary in the field, typical day in the field. Presentation may also include child friendly games digital slides, visuals or photos, handouts, and hands on activities.
For the younger students (kindergarten to grade 2) will head outside, weather permitting, and learn about Careers on Wheels.
The school staff is looking to have four to five career vehicles set up outside the school and the classes will come and learn a little about the career. Someone must be with the vehicle and give a brief overview of the career. If the weather does not cooperate, the Careers on Wheels program will be modified to indoor presentations with presentors giving an overview, hopefully with photos, of their career. Presentations can include information on related school subjects, education/training, personal skills necessary in the field, typical day in the field.
Those interested in participating in either Career Day or Careers on Wheels can contact Carly Thorne, Sandycreek Elementary School Counselor at 814-432- 3819 ext. 3332 or thornec@fasd.k12.pa.us.
